Elevate the Center for Service and Volunteerism.
NAU’s Center for Service and Volunteerism is the place where service comes to life at NAU. Through programs like AmeriCorps and Axe of Service, NAU students have opportunities to get involved, give back, and grow.
Through the Axe of Service volunteer engagement platform, local non-profit partners post their opportunities for volunteers to sign up for and track their impact. These range from helping students in schools, athletes through Special Olympics, and animals through High Country Humane—and so much more—there is something for everyone.
Volunteers are making a big impact in Flagstaff. In the first two years of the program, Axe of Service has:
- Enrolled 3,800 individual users
- Partnered with 100 local agencies
- Posted over 500 volunteer needs
- Reported 6,977 service hours

Empower Lumberjacks to serve.
Beyond providing volunteer opportunities, we are committed to developing the next generation of volunteer leaders. Your gift to the Center for Service and Volunteerism fund will help us fund three important initiatives:
- Student service ambassadors: These Ambassadors—consisting of 10 local high school and college students—lead service projects, learn the grantmaking process, and promote Axe of Service through a year-long program. We are seeking $250 donations to provide stipends for these student leaders
- Service microgrants: Axe of Service is enabling student led service projects through $500 microgrants. Last year, 8 groups received funding and made a big impact in Flagstaff through events ranging from a voter registration drive and STEM resource fair to refurbishing a school music room and teaching students how to repair clothing to reduce apparel waste. Join us today to creating more student service projects through microgrant donations
- Recognition event: Help us celebrate and honor the accomplishments of these students with an end-of-year recognition event. They will present their projects, findings, and tell us what they learned through their service. Donate today and we would love to have you join for in the celebration

Thank you for your axe of kindness!
Thank you for supporting the Center for Service and Volunteerism during the 2026 Homecoming Campus Open House.
Homecoming event opportunity:
Axe of Service also hosts High Altitude Service Projects, including for Homecoming. This year, we will host students and alumni for a two part project. First, we will plant flowers for a campus beautification project and, in collaboration with the Foster Alliance, we will build bikes and hygiene kits for children in Foster Care. We hope you can join us on Saturday, October 17 from 11:00-1:00. Sign up here.
